9th Grade English students have been talking about the role that heroes and villains play in our cultural storytelling. After reading The Odyssey and Beowulf, students noticed that these ancient heroes acted in ways that wouldn't be considered heroic today. So, students tried to determine what heroes look like in 2021! The class identified specific traits that we consider heroic today and then researched individuals that embody these traits. Students presented their findings as the heroes, writing persuasively to convince their classmates that they were the "Hero of 2021." Our 2021 heroes included Tom Brady, Anthony Fauci, ICU Nurses, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, military leaders, and tech developers. A great way to make old stories relevant!
