8th graders in STEM class recently put their engineering skills to use creating newspaper structures. It needed to be at least 2 feet tall and able to hold at least one textbook. The only supplies they had were newspaper, glue sticks, and their imagination! The classes each decided that creating columns from the newspaper would be the best base structure to begin with, things got creative from there. Some were even able to hold the weight of their creator! Afterwards they wrapped up their activities with some reflections on their building successes and what they would do differently next time.
